Cabinet Condemns Red Fort Car Explosion as a 'Heinous Terrorist Incident'

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, unequivocally condemned the powerful car explosion that occurred near Delhi’s Red Fort on November 10. The Cabinet passed a resolution officially terming the incident a "heinous terrorist incident perpetrated by anti-national forces."

National Resolve and Call for Justice

The resolution, read out by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, expressed profound grief over the loss of innocent lives and observed two minutes of silence to honor the victims.

The Cabinet made a firm commitment to ensuring that the perpetrators, their collaborators, and sponsors—both foreign and domestic—are identified and brought to justice without delay.

  • Zero Tolerance: The Cabinet reaffirmed India’s unwavering zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

  • Urgent Investigation: Authorities were directed to pursue the investigation with the "utmost urgency and professionalism," confirming that the government is monitoring the situation at the highest levels. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the probe, registering a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Appreciation for Courage and Global Support

The government's resolution also acknowledged the immediate and coordinated efforts of emergency services, security agencies, and citizens who displayed courage and compassion during the crisis.

Furthermore, the Cabinet recorded its appreciation for the expressions of solidarity and support received from various governments across the world, underscoring the international consensus against this type of violence.

Context of the Attack

The November 10 blast ripped through a moving Hyundai i20 car near the Lal Qila Metro Station during peak traffic hour, killing at least 12 people and injuring more than 20 others. Subsequent police raids and investigation have revealed a likely link to a terror module and a suspected driver from Pulwama, J&K, who was allegedly driving the explosive-laden car.

The Cabinet concluded its session by reiterating the government's steadfast commitment to safeguarding the lives and well-being of all citizens and ensuring national security.
